Butyric Butylic Fermentations

Butyric Butylic Fermentations - This fermentation involving pyruvate reduction is seen in strict anaerobes such as clostridia which can activate molecular hydrogen by the use of ferredoxin. The initial cleavage of glucose yields H2, CO2 and two carbon fragments. Two such fragments are then condensed to yield acetoacetyl CoA which is decarboxylated and or, reduced to acetone, isopropanol, butyric acid and n-butanol in varying proportions.
