Ethylene

Ethylene
Ethylene production has been detected in soil as well as in pure cultures of microorganisms. A variety of substrates in soil including. methionine, other aminocids, organic acids, carbohydrates are Town to be the sources of ethylene. There appears to be a direct relation between the rate of C2H4 production and the organic matter content of soil.

Small amounts of exogenous application of ethytlene can influence plant response and ethylene has a role in ripening of fruits. Bacterial genera capable of producing ethylene are Aeromonas, Arthrobacter, Citrobacter, Clostridium, Enterobacter, Erwinia, Escherichia, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Serratia and Streptomyces. Ethylene producing fungi come under the genera Acremonium, Agaricus, Alternaria, Ascochyta, Aspergillus, Blastomyces, Botrytis, Candida, Mucor, Fusarium, Laccaria, Neurospora, Penicillium, Pythium and Rhizoctonia.
