Glutamate Synthase GOGAT Reaction

Glutamate Synthase GOGAT Reaction
This is the key reaction in the GOGAT pathway. In the ammonia assimilation mechanism, glutamine reacts with 2-oxoglutarate in a transferase reaction, leading to the formation of two molecules of glutamate.

Glutamine is the amino donor, 2-oxoglutarate the amino acceptor and a reduced pyridine nucleotide the reductant in this reaction.

L-Glutamine + 2-Oxoglutarate + NADPH (NADH)

2 Glutamate + NADP (NAD)
