Specificity of Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria in Grasses

Specificity of Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria in Grasses -
In contrast to the Rhizobium legume system which shows some specificity, Beijerinckia associates with the rhizospheres of a variety of tropical plants, including rice, sugarcane and Cyperns. Azospirillum is also associated with a wide variety of plants.

It has, however, been suggested that only specific species can associate endosymbiotically with particular host plants.

Thus, Azospirillum lipoferum is always associated with corn roots and A.brasilense nir with wheat and rice roots.
