List of Some dsDNA Viruse

List of Some dsDNA Viruses - Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) is an example of a dsDNA virus. The virus is transmitted by aphids (non-persistently). Nodules are observed in cabbage infected with cauliflower mosaic virus.

Cauliflower mosaic virus is a large icosahedral virus with a diameter of 50 nm. It contains 15% DNA which is in the form of a double helix (MW 4.4X 106). The DNA is believed to be linear in situ but becomes circular after extraction. The virus probably has more than one protein shell.

The M W of the protein subunits is 33,000 daltons. Cauliflower mosaic virus forms characteristic X-bodies in the cytoplasm of infected cells. These are round or elliptical structures with one or more vacuole like spaces. Spherical virus particles are found within the spaces and are also associated with the inner part and surface of the X-bodies.

Finger like processes (modified plasmodesmata) arise from the cell walls of leaves of plants infected with Cauliflower mosaic virus and dahlia mosaic viruses. Abnormalities in nuclei and mitochondria have also been observed.
