Pea Enation Mosaic Virus - PEM

Pea Enation Mosaic Virus - PEMV -  Pea enation mosaic virus has isometric particles about 29 nm in diameter.

There are two types of particles with S value of 112 and 99.

There are two RNA species, RNA-1 and RNA-2. Hull and Lane (1973) have shown that the bottom particles Contain RNA-1 but not RNA-2.

The coat protein determinants are carried in the bottom particles. In PEMV the gene for 1/3 single capsid protein is located on the larger of the two RNA species.

In this respect it differs from most other split genome viruses. Hull and Lane (1973) have shown that infectivity is increased by mixing the particles types.

PEMV has a narrow host range and cause mottle and enation symptoms. Aphids are vectors.
