Halobacteriaceae -
The
genera
Halobacterium
and
Halococcus
of
this
family
have
the
characteristic
features
of
archaebacteria.
Halobacterium
possesses
the
unusual
bacterior
hodosporin
mediated
phototrophic
metabolism.
Besides
this
unique
feature,
all
members
of
this
family
are
obligate
halophiles,growing
only
in
media
containing
at
least
15%
NaCl.
They
are
found
in
ecosystems
having
extremely
high
NaCl
concentrations,
such
as
salt
lakes,the
Dead
sea,
and
foods
preserved
by
salts
