Hydrolysis
of
GTP -
Some
recent
studies
have
shown
that
hydrolysis
of
GTP
is
not
absolutely
essential
for
translocation.
It
has
been
suggested
that
translocation
results
from
the
correct
binding
of
EP-G
to
the
ribosome,
and
that
hydrolysis
of
GTP
is
required
for
releasing
EF-G
from
the
ribosome.
EP-G
is
thus
recycled.
This
mechanism
is
similar
to
that
of
GTP
action
with
reference
to
EF-Tu
and
IP-2
