Movement of mRNA

Movement of mRNA - Movement of mRNA also involves EF-G and GTP. During translation the ribosomes move along mRNA from the 5' to the 3' end, one codon at a time. Use of a synthetic polymer having the codons AUG, UUU, UUU in translation results in a tripeptide fmet-phe-phe-.

The dipeptide fmet-phe could be formed in the absence of EF-G, but synthesis of the tripeptide fmet phe phe required EF-G. This shows that EP.G was required for making the third codon available for translation. The first two codons could, however be translated in the absence of EF-G
