Recognition, Binding and Initiation Sites on DNA

Recognition, Binding and Initiation Sites on DNA - RNA polymerase initially binds to an RNA polymerase recognition site on the DNA promoter region. It then diffuses to a binding site consisting of a sequence of seven bases, which never differs by more than two bases from the following sequence: 5' TATPuATG. The start of mRNA transcription takes place at the initiation site. This consists of one of two bases near the binding site (6 or 7 bases away)
