(2) Depending on the agro-climatic conditions and the variety planted, significant increases in yield over control could be expected with arhar (Cajanus cajan), chickpea or Bengal gram (Cicer arietinum) and masur (Lens culinaris); (3) At certain sites, even in neutral soils, where conventional simple Rhizobium ).noculations have failed, pelleting inoculated seeds with lime or charcoal could significantly increase yields of red gram (Cajanus cajan); and (4) Though responses to Rhizobium inoculation with regard to other crops are rather variable, it may still prove beneficial in certain regions. Inoculation is so inexpensive that some farmers have taken to inoculating all pulses and fodder crops such as berseem and lucerne with Rhizobium as a routine practice to insure against crop failure.
