Ribosomal Proteins - A distinguishing feature of animal mitoribosomes is that they are rich in proteins. Xenopus mitoribosomes were shown to have 84 different proteins, 40 in the large subunit and 44 in the small subunit (Leister and Dawid, t 974). Bovine mitoribosomes have 90 different proteins, 52 in the large subunit and38 in the small one (O'Brien et 01, 1974).
