Myxomycetes

Myxomycetes

They are a special class because they resemble animals in their feeding habits and plasmodial acellular creeping locomotion.

They also resemble fungi because reproductive structures and spores are formed. They are abundant in decaying vegetation or dung, often attaining 50 cm or more in size. The genus Physarum (100 species) is the largest genus of Myxomycetes.
