Ultraviolet (UV) Microscope
Expensive quartz optic are used in UV microscope because conventional lenses are unable to transmit UV light.
The advantages are that unstained preparations can be studied under natural conditions with high resolution because nuclei acid and proteins absorb UV light at wavelengths of 260 and 280 nm.
Photographs can be obtained to reveal details of microorganisms since direct viewing under UV light is harmful.
