Staining Method of Mayfield and Inniss:
Recently, Mayfield and Inniss (26) described a very simple and rapid method for flagella staining which is a modification of method of Gray (25). The method can be used on both air dried smear and directly on wet mount of motile bacteria.

The procedure described by them does not require rigorously cleaned slide, chemicals of highest purity, counter stain application and extreme care in  handling the culture suspen­sion. In this technique, mordant and stain are applied at the same time and slide can be examined along the concentration gradient.
