Stains For Amoeba Other Intestinal Protozoa And Malarial Parasites

Stains for Amqeba, other Intestinal Protozoa and Malarial Parasites
Protozoa are eukaryotic protists that occur as single cell or in colonies of cells. They vary widely in size, shape, structure and physiological characteristics. According to the recent compilation, there are at least 45,000 species of protozoa. Some are harmless, many are useful and some are pathogenic to man, animals and plants. Out of 45,000 species approximately 20,000 are fossils, 18,000 are free living and 7,000 are parasitic in nature. Further detail on protozoa may be obtained from the Grell (18), Sleigh (19) and Noble and Noble (20). Demonstration of protozoa in specimen like blood, faeces etc. is very important from the diagnostic point of view. Several methods are available for this purpose, few of them are given here.
