Rhinovirus
Infections
They
are
a
large
group
of
more
than
100
small
RNA
viruses
with
icosahedral
symmetry.
Rhinos
means
nose.
The.
virion
consists
of
a
single
molecule
of
RNA
(2.3
x
106-2.8
x
106
daltons)
and
a
capsid
containing
60
copies
of
four
different
polypeptide
chains.
They
are
involved
in
respiratory
infections.
They
multiply
in
upper
respiratory
tract
causing
injury
to
mucosal
cells.
There
is
headache,
sneezing,
stuffy
nose
and
sore
throat,
a
condition
called acute
coryza,
but
more
commonly
as
head
cold.
There
is
burning
of
eye
and
nasal
membranes
with
little
fever.
