Viral Enzymes

Several virion specific enzymes have been found in animal viruses, most of these activities being confined to enveloped viruses.

Thus dsRNA viruses contain enzymes for the synthesis of viral mRNA, including the addition of a 'cap'.

Such enzymatic activities have not been detected in plant or bacterial viruses, except for the dsRNA viruses of plants.
