Requirement of Good Chemical Disinfectant

Requirement of Good Chemical Disinfectant - Chemical agents are the commonly used disinfectants in treatment processes. The requirements of a good chemical disinfectant are:

1.Should be quick and effective in killing pathogenic microorganisms present in the water.

2. Should be readily soluble in water at concentration required for disinfection and it should also leave a residual effect.

3. Should not impart any taste, odor or color to water.

4. Should not be toxic to human and animal life.

5. Should be easy to detect and measure in water.

6. Should be easy to handle, transport, apply and control.

7. Should be readily available at moderate cost.
