Microbiology of Sewage
Sewage is waste water from a community containing solid and liquid excreta, derived from houses, streets and yard washings, factories and industries. It resembles dirty water with an unpleasant smell. The term sullage is applied to waste water which does not contain human excreta, e.g. kitchen and bathroom waste water.
The amount of sewage that flows in the sewers depend on:
Habit of people If people use more water, there will be more sewage.
Time of the day In the morning (when people tend to use more water), there will be greater quantity of sewage flowing than in the mid-day (when the flow is less) and again the flow becomes more during the evenings. .
