Need For Sewer System

Need For Sewer System
Each time you flush the toilet or you wash something down the sink's drain, you create sewage (known as waste water). There are three main reasons why waste water cannot be directly released into the environment. First of all, it creates bad odour, secondly it contains harmful bacteria which cause health hazards and thirdly, it contains suspended solids and chemicals that affect the environment. That is why communities build waste water treatment plants and enforce laws.

The aim of sewage purification is:

To stabilise the organic matter i.e. to break down the organic matter to simple substances which will not decompose further. This is accomplished by bacterial action.

To produce an effluent which is free from pathogens and which can be disposed off without causing a nuisance.

To utilise the water and solids, if necessary, without risk to health.
