Testing of Sewage

Testing of Sewage
Sewage is most commonly tested for:
total solids
nitrogen
chlorides
hydrogen sulphide
organic carbon
dissolved oxygen
grease and fats
chemical oxygen demand
biological oxygen demand

These tests are important to analyse the strength of sewage and to what extent, it can harm the environment. Presence of chemicals in sewage indicate the various treatment nature of the sewage (whether the sewage is fresh or is it decomposed anaerobically or whether it contains lot of organic matter, etc.)
