Technique
It may be used in the field also. A special, collecting bottle is held against the water current and a 100-ml sample is taken. The water is filtered through a membrane filter and the filter pad is then transferred to a plate of bacteriological medium. Bacteria trapped in the filter will form colonies which may be counted.
