Specific Tests For Asseing Water Coliform Counts

The most frequently used indicator organism is the normally nonpathogenic Coliform bacterium Escherichia coli. Positive tests for E. coli do not prove the pre­sence of enteropathogens, such as Salmonella and Shigella, but do establish the possibility. E. coli is more numerous and easier to be grown.
