Bacteriological Techniques for the Examination of Water

Bacteriological Techniques For The Examinations -Drinking water, polluted water from natural sources and treated effluent water have to be examined regularly for determining their quality.
Examination of this sort do  provide informations on the status of pollution, type of pollution and its source and type of treatment required.
In addition, it can justify whether the water can be used or not.

Bacteriological examination of water actually employs three different techniques:
(1) total count,
(2) membrane filter method and
(3) multiple tube method.
The organisms of interest in the bacteriological examination are the indicator organisms coliforms, faecal coliforms and faecal streptococci.
Each technique has its own applications and its own advantages and disadvantages.
Similarly each group of organisms has its own technique for its examination
